Rethinking the Final Chapter: A Conversation on End-of-Life Care

At 50Plus-Skills, we believe that the way we care for one another at the end of life reflects how we value life itself. Yet for many, death remains a topic cloaked in silence and discomfort. It doesn’t have to be.

For me, this journey is deeply personal. I lost my father when I was just thirteen—news delivered over a telephone call that echoed through the corridors of my boarding school and left a lasting imprint. Decades later, I received another call—this time about my mother, who passed away after a heart attack in her retirement cottage. Though her sudden departure was a shock, I knew it was the way she had hoped to go healthy, independent, and without prolonged suffering. We had spoken about it. We had prepared.

These conversations—though difficult—are essential. In a world where we are living longer and often caring for aging parents or partners, we must learn to navigate the emotional, logistical, and spiritual complexities of end-of-life care. Whether we live nearby or across continents, the journey can be heart-wrenching and financially straining. But it can also be filled with dignity, compassion, and clarity—if we are willing to talk about it.

That’s why we’re hosting a special webinar:

🕊️ End-of-Life Care: Rethinking the Final Chapter
📅 Date: Tuesday, 18 November
🕛 Time: 12:30–13:30 (Lunch Hour)
🔗 Register here: Join the conversation

This event brings together a panel of experts—a palliative care trainer, a medical doctor, and a practitioner—who will share insights from clinical, emotional, and systemic perspectives. Together, we’ll explore how early integration of palliative care can enhance not just the final days, but the entire journey of aging with serious illness.

We’ll explore questions like:

  • What does good end-of-life care really look and feel like—for individuals, families, and care teams?
  • How can we normalize conversations around mortality and empower people to make informed, values-based decisions?
  • What innovations and mindset shifts are helping us reframe death—not as failure, but as a natural and potentially transformative part of life?

You’ll walk away with:

  • A deeper understanding of the evolving field of palliative care
  • Tools and language to initiate meaningful conversations with loved ones or clients
  • A renewed perspective on aging that includes the power of purposeful closure

This is more than a webinar. It’s an invitation to rethink how we approach the final chapter—with courage, clarity, and compassion.

We hope you’ll join us.
