Founder of Take the Lead

Words from the person who nominated Margie

I have known Margie for many years. Her whole work life as a leader and social worker has focused on the elderly and ensuring they live with dignity and remain flexible and healthy as long as possible. Margie has served on many organisations both locally and globally. She was the South African lead for Common Age for many years and started the SA Care Forum. She now leads Take the Lead, training caregivers to keep those they care for active and moving.

Longevity is a mega trend impacting life for all of us. We asked Margie what this means to her and what she does to impact change in this field of work:

Longevity is a gift of extra years, adding time to ageing, the process of growing older. Mentoring and encouraging leaders in this field, I facilitate global connections and leadership development to enable care staff to rethink ageing and to see potential for growth until the very end of life. Focusing on healthy ageing, working with colleagues across the globe, I have developed partnerships and trained many care staff to incorporate physical activity into their care plans, enabling continued growth of the elders they care for. No one is too frail or old to do some form of exercise.
