Practice Director and Co-Founder of the Responsible Finance Initiative at the Gordon Institute of Business Sciences.
Words from the person who nominated Anne:
Anne is someone I admire. Her skills, experience and tenacity are an asset in our Nation. Her career has spanned 40 years in asset management and finance. I met Anne when she was the head of the Alexander Forbes Research Institute. Anne has worked in many nations and is doing such important work now at GIBS.
Longevity is a mega trend impacting life for all of us. We asked Anne what this means to her and what she does to impact change in this field of work:
For forty years I managed pension funds globally – primarily in emerging economies. That said, my real passion was developmental anthropology. The melding of these two disciplines, though, allowed me to appreciate how profoundly flawed pension fund systems are, in a world where “retirement” is something of an anomaly. As such, I made a life pivot: creating a research institute to address the constantly shifting financial needs of individuals – particularly women – with multigenerational financial responsibilities throughout their multi-phased lives. Now, in our post-Covid world, managing a multi-stage life (with no reference to retirement) is a necessity for all of us
Responsible Finance Initiative
Finance is a powerful lever. Where the interests of the private sector, the public sector and the commons remain unintegrated – it can foster unintentional and untenable inequality. When those interests are understood and aligned, finance and investments can provide a catalyst for economic growth. When we can measure the economic value of integrating finance with social impact, we not only stimulate growth, but we address the issues of inequality and transformation head-on. This is where the Responsible Finance Initiative (RFI) sees itself as playing a critical role. Its mission is to empower economic agents to effectively allocate and mobilise capital to meet the development and economic growth imperatives of African nations and regions, as set out by their commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
